“Sir, I’m not able to write with a good speed in the exam. Please suggest me some methods” a student of final year degree asked me!
This is a common problem among many students. They end up with incomplete paper by the end of three hours of the exam. They come out with a feeling that, though I knew the answers, I couldn’t write them!.
The disappointment is valid because, you will be evaluated based on the answer that you have written in the exam paper irrespective of the level of knowledge you have. So one has to have some strategy to finish the paper! Otherwise, how much ever intelligent he/she may be, he will end up with poor marks.
These strategies are linked with the 3P principles which I mentioned in the strategies to overcome exam anxiety. You may go through them here:
The third P under 3 P Principle is ‘Present’. The presentation must be in best possible way. Though students of different streams will have to follow different methods, which you may have to ask me personally, I will give general strategies to complete the paper with good length of answer.
Strategy 1: Have conceptual clarity
You should have a clear understanding of the concepts before going for the exam so that you can use them as per the demand of the question.
Strategy 2: Practice writing for long time
Once you have knowledge in your mind, you should practice to put it on paper. The more you practice writing, faster your writing will be. You should have a practice of writing for 4 hours if you are appearing for 3 hours exams.
Strategy 3: Choose the right pen
You should always write your examination with right pen, i.e. the pen with which you are very much comfortable with. You should practice with the same pen. Always have additional number of pens.
Strategy 4: Understand the question
Unless you do not understand the demand of the question, your answer can never be correct. Also you should be aware what length of answer is expected based on the marks allotted.
Strategy 5: Prioritize the questions
You should learn to prioritize the questions based on your knowledge level. So that, you will not miss out those questions which you knew very well.
There are many other strategies to be followed for different disciplines which I will be able to share for individuals only.
